Presentation of Reports from Standing or Special Committees

The Honourable Senator Stratton, Chair of the Standing Committee on Conflict of Interest for Senators, presented its second report (budget—mandate pursuant to rule 86(1)(r)—power to hire staff).

(The report is printed as appendix "A'' at pages 389-393.)

The Honourable Senator Stratton moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Neufeld, that the report be placed on the Orders of the Day for consideration at the next sitting.

The Honourable Senator Wallace, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, presented its fourth report (Bill S-3, A third Act to harmonize federal law with the civil law of Quebec and to amend certain Acts in order to ensure that each language version takes into account the common law and the civil law, without amendment).

The Honourable Senator Angus moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Lang, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a third reading at the next sitting.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Wallace, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, presented its fifth report (The Parole Board of Canada's User Fees Proposal, without amendment, but with observations).

The Honourable Senator Wallace moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Plett, that the report be placed on the Orders of the Day for consideration at the next sitting.

That, in accordance with subsection 3.(1) of the Auditor General Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. A-17, the Senate approve the appointment of Michael Ferguson as Auditor General of Canada.
